This is the non-keyed version of the EGW Commander Reverse Plug.
It is designed for Commander-length 1911 pistols using a compatible full-length guide rod and reverse-plug recoil system.
The EGW Commander Reverse Plug for 1/4" Guide Rod Systems is designed for Commander-length 1911 pistols using a full-length guide rod and a recoil system that requires a reverse plug.
Unlike the keyed version, this reverse plug uses a standard non-keyed design.
It is intended for applications where the slide and recoil system do not require the locating key found on certain custom or application-specific reverse plugs.
EGW manufactures this reverse plug from carbon steel and finishes it in blue.
The rounded shoulder is extended to increase support and eliminate exposed areas where stress can concentrate and cracking can begin.
Reverse plugs are commonly used in bull-barrel and compensated 1911 pistols where a traditional barrel bushing and recoil spring plug are not used to retain the recoil spring.
This version is specifically intended for Commander-length slides and compatible full-length guide rod systems.
Non-Keyed Reverse Plug Design.
This version of the EGW Commander Reverse Plug is not keyed.
It uses a conventional round reverse-plug configuration without the locating tab found on EGW keyed reverse plugs.
Choosing between a keyed and non-keyed reverse plug depends on the slide and recoil-system configuration being used.
Always match the reverse plug design to the slide and guide rod system in your pistol.
Keyed VS. Non-Keyed:
Keyed Reverse Plug: Includes a locating key or tab designed to engage a corresponding feature in the slide.
This Reverse Plug: Uses a standard non-keyed design for slides and recoil systems that do not require the locating key.
What Does a Reverse Plug Do?
Traditional 1911 recoil systems use a barrel bushing and recoil spring plug at the front of the slide.
Bull-barrel pistols, compensated guns, and many full-length guide rod systems instead use a reverse plug.
The reverse plug installs from the rear of the slide's recoil spring tunnel and provides the forward support point for the recoil spring and guide rod assembly.
This EGW reverse plug is designed specifically for that role in a Commander-length 1911 slide.
Designed for Full-Length Guide Rod Systems.
The live EGW application data identifies this reverse plug for Commander-length 1911s using full-length guide rods.
The product is commonly identified as the 1/4" guide rod version.
The actual machined hole diameter of this plug is .332", providing the clearance required for the intended guide rod application.
Carbon Steel Construction.
EGW manufactures this reverse plug from carbon steel rather than a softer lead-based alloy.
The reverse plug repeatedly supports recoil spring compression as the pistol cycles, making material strength important for long-term durability.
The carbon steel plug receives a blued finish for a traditional dark appearance that pairs well with many Commander-length 1911 builds.
Extended-Rounded Should for Added Support.
EGW extends and rounds the shoulder of the reverse plug to increase the amount of supported material in a high-stress area.
This design minimizes exposed unsupported sections where stress can concentrate and helps reduce the potential for cracking during repeated recoil cycles.

Installation & Fitment:
Reverse plug fitment depends on the slide, recoil spring tunnel, guide rod diameter, barrel configuration, and other recoil-system dimensions.
The reverse plug must seat correctly in the slide while allowing proper guide rod alignment, recoil spring compression, and full slide travel.
Because 1911 slides and custom builds can vary considerably between manufacturers, minor fitting may be required.
