Mounting:
The Model No. 1400 Case Trimming Lathe should be rigidly mounted to a bench top or other solid work surface by means of the two holes in the base.
The trimmer may be mounted parallel to the front edge of the bench, or at any angle to it, according to the preference of the operator.
An alternative mounting method is to use a Redding Double “C” Clamp (Part #30520, NOT INCLUDED).
The clamp accommodates bench tops up to 2-1/4” think and allows easy removal of the trimmer when not in use.
Universal Collet:
The Universal Collet has a series of steps that accept all popular cartridge cases.
To operate the collet:
• Grasp the handle and withdraw the spindle so that the protruding lock pin enters the slot in the frame.
• Release any tension on the collet by rotating the handle counterclockwise.
Counterclockwise rotation will open the collet.
Clockwise rotation will close the collet.
Important: Do not close the collet when it is empty - it may be permanently damaged by overstressing.
Case Length Adjustment:
Cases must be resized, and the necks properly expanded before trimming.
This ensures proper fit of the pilots and avoids additional length changes that may occur during sizing.
Once the case is placed into the collet:
1. Turn the handle clockwise until the collet closes securely on the cartridge case rim.
2. Slide the handle and spindle fully forward. This moves the lock pin out of the slot in the frame allowing
the spindle to be rotated.
3. While holding the spindle in this fully forward position, loosen the cutter shaft and slide the pilot into
the case mouth until the TiN cutter makes contact with the case.
4. Lock the cutter shaft in this position with the set screw.
5. Fine adjustments for length may now be made by rotating the lock ring on the handle.
Deburring:
Deburring the inside and outside of the case mouth after trimming is very important.
The small chamfers created help ensure accurate case sizing and proper bullet seating.
Deburring is easily and properly accomplished with a quick twist of the Redding Deburring Tool (Part #09000).
Lubrication:
A light periodic oiling of the spindle will keep it functioning smoothly.
The frame is made of cast iron, a natural bearing surface, so you never have to worry about wear and galling.
Accessories:
Included with your trimmer are large and small primer pocket cleaners and two case neck cleaning brushes.
Threaded holes are provided on the trimmer frame to mount the primer pocket cleaners and one of the
brushes.

"Reloading for competition shooting is what I wanted this case trimmer for. It is straight forward to use and very consistent and precise every time. I highly recommend this case trimmer."
"Liked the first one so much I had to have two. One for 5.56 and one for 7.62."
"I use this exclusively to trim 308 brass and I've had it for years. Works perfectly and consistantly. Never had to adjust it. I only wish the cutting did the deburring as well."
